SkyRise®

Product overview

What the OTIS SkyRise® is

The OTIS SkyRise® is a high-rise and super-high-rise elevator platform. It is offered in single-deck, double-deck and super-double-deck car arrangements, and that distinction matters more than any other in this segment, because deck configuration decides how the core of a tower is planned and how passenger flow is divided between low, mid and high zones.

The published envelope is a rated load of ≤~5,000 kg, a rated speed of ≤~12.5 m/s and a travel of ≤~600 m. Those are envelope values rather than one configuration: a project sits somewhere inside them, and the combination actually ordered is fixed by the traffic study and by the shaft the structure can provide.

SkyRise® belongs to the category used for landmark towers, large office headquarters and dense mixed-use developments, where the elevator core is a primary design constraint rather than a service element added at the end.

Where it fits in a project

The platform is aimed at tall office buildings, mixed-use towers with office or hotel stacking, high-rise hotels, and landmark developments where handling capacity at peak becomes the governing design case. Double-deck and super-double-deck arrangements are chosen where the lobby can serve paired floor levels consistently, which is a decision taken with the architect.

It belongs to the early stage of a project. Zoning, sky lobbies, core dimensions and the structural openings are settled at concept and schematic design, well before a supplier is formally appointed, so the elevator consultant or the design team normally carries the SkyRise® envelope into the core drawings first and the purchase follows.

New build is the main application. Modernization of a tall building is possible but constrained, since a high-speed car needs shaft straightness, overhead and pit dimensions that an existing core rarely offers without civil work.

Owners and contractors usually raise the same points: core efficiency, behaviour under building sway, fire-fighting and evacuation provisions, the interface with the destination dispatch system, and the division of responsibility for rail alignment and final adjustment. On a tall building those items carry more commercial weight than the equipment price itself.

What to check before you specify it

Compliance and documentation

For CE-marked markets the design and testing route runs through EN 81-20 for the safety rules and EN 81-50 for tests and examinations, with the manufacturer's type examination supporting the declaration of conformity. In China, GB 7588 is the governing safety standard for lift construction and installation, and units built for that market are documented against it.

These routes are not interchangeable across borders. Requirements of the destination country are confirmed by the buyer, and tall buildings often attract additional local rules on fire-fighting lifts, evacuation and seismic design that sit outside the elevator standard itself.

A shipment is normally accompanied by the type examination certificate for the model, the certificate of conformity for the units supplied, the packing list, and the test reports from factory testing. ElevApex does not issue certificates and does not certify products. We coordinate the documentation package with the manufacturing partner and check that certificates, nameplate data and the purchase order agree before dispatch. Third-party inspection can be arranged where the buyer's contract or the destination authority calls for an independent witness.

Supply, inspection and shipping

ElevApex is a multi-brand supplier, not a manufacturer. Equipment is sourced from Chinese manufacturing partners, and our role is to match the platform to the project, compare several brands in one enquiry, and keep documentation and logistics on one schedule. There is no ElevApex factory; the nameplate belongs to the brand.

Factory testing for a high-speed unit is the point where most problems are still cheap to fix. The buyer may witness the test or nominate an independent inspector, and the test report, inspection record and nameplate data should be reconciled with the order before packing.

Packing for a tall building follows the installation sequence: rails in sections, car panels crated separately, controller and machinery protected against moisture, and door equipment packed so that landing frames are not deformed in transit. Shipment is by sea freight in most cases, with the delivery term and risk split fixed in the contract. The usual nodes are handover at the factory or port, ocean transit, destination clearance and inland delivery, and site storage should be ready before arrival because long rails need level ground.

Frequently asked questions

Which deck arrangement should a project choose?

Double-deck and super-double-deck cars only pay back where the lobby layout lets both decks load at the same time. Where stops are single-level, a single-deck arrangement is normally the more workable choice, and the decision belongs with the traffic study.

Is the envelope on this page a fixed specification?

No. The figures describe the platform envelope; the configuration ordered for a project is set in the technical schedule and confirmed against the traffic study and the shaft dimensions.

Can SkyRise® be used in a building that is already standing?

It can be examined for modernization, but a high-speed installation depends on shaft straightness, overhead and pit dimensions. Those are surveyed before any commitment is made.

Who confirms the compliance route for my market?

The buyer confirms the requirements of the destination country. We can supply the CE or GB documentation set that the manufacturing partner holds and coordinate any additional tests the local authority asks for.

Can a third party inspect before shipment?

Yes. Third-party inspection can be arranged on request, and the inspection record is issued together with the shipping documents so that the receiving site can check the delivery against it.
